 FAQs

  • Amazing! We welcome everyone with open arms no matter your level of skill, fitness, or footballing experience. All you need to is come on down to a training session and give the club a go. If you would feel more confortable speaking to someone before coming to training, feel free to reach out via our new player enquiry form on our homepage and someone will be in touch!

  • That is totally fine - lots of our current Westies came down to the club never having played footy before. We have three teams in both the men’s and women’s competitions in the VAFA, meaning we cater to all levels of skill and experience! Our coaches will show you the ropes, and our playing group are very helpful and supportive.

  • We don’t hold any form of try-outs at West Brunswick - everyone is welcome to come and play at West.

  • Training during the season is held at our home grounds (Ransford and McAlister Ovals, Park St. Parkville) on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.00pm unless otherwise notified via email or WhatsApp.

  • Game times can be variable, but most often our teams play at the approximate times below on a Saturday:Thirds: 9.20amReserves: MiddaySeniors: 2.00pm

The Women’s competition does on occasion play on a Sunday and times can vary across all teams. This information will be known once fixtures are released by the VAFA.

  • Subs stands for ‘subscription’ - they are the fees required to be a player at WBAFC. Subs do vary and will be communicated in the pre-season once confirmed by committee.

Our subs rates are very competitive compared to similar clubs in the VAFA, and we believe they offer our members great value for money with access to high-quality trainings, medical/sports trainers, and medical supplies.

The subs cover approximately 50% of what it costs to put a player on the park, contributing to facilities fees, coaching and medical staff costs, playing and training equipment, other necessary supplies, and various club operational costs including VAFA fees.

  • To assist players we offer student/low income rates, early-bird specials, and payment plans. We don’t want payment to be a barrier to playing, so please do reach out to our club treasurer if you would like to anonymously discuss a payment plan or if you require financial assistance to be able to play for WBAFC.

  • Players are responsible for ordering and purchasing their own on-field kit. Information about how to do this will be communicated during pre-season each year.

You will be required to purchase the following from the club:

a playing jumper (short and/or long sleeve)

    WBAFC black shorts

    WBAFC socks

If you are playing in one of our 3 men’s teams, you will also be required to purchase WBAFC white away shorts.

You will also need to have your own football boots and a mouthguard.

If you need to arrange a payment plan for your kit, you will be able to do so by speaking to our club treasurer.

All items are pre-order only and will need to be collected from training when available. Delivery can take 4-6 weeks.

  • A playing number will be allocated to you based on what is available. Unfortunately, we are not often able to accomodate requests for preferred numbers as our playing numbers are so high.

  • Injury is an unfortunate risk when playing sport, and we do what we can to protect and support our players.

If you are injured, your registration with the club entitles you to basic personal injury insurance. Our insurance policy does not just apply to injuries sustained during matches – you are also covered if you are injured during training, practice matches, while volunteering and at club-related activities.

We also have club injury officers to support players with the insurance process who will talk you through it.
